I have been dropping
by the fantastic Ramsgate Beach Foodie and Artisans Market over the past year
or so. It is a very cute market, held in the grounds of Ramsgate Beach Public
School. The market has a great
range of food stalls, which vary week from week. Today there were three great
fruit and vegetable stalls. Nashdale Organic Farm had a wonderful range –
including some delicious bouquets of sweet peppery watercress. Other stalls include brasserie breads
(it was very hard to choose between the roasted garlic bread – and the olive
and rosemary bread), free range eggs, fresh pastas, a wonderful range of olives
and olive oils, Hunter Valley beef, saltbush lamb – to mention a few! There are
also some lovely arts and craft stalls, including the beautiful range at
“Starnam” – I couldn’t resist the delightful bags (perfect for filling up with
other market goodies), which are recycled in Vietnam from bags containing
animal and fish feed! Another
bonus is that the market is a short stroll from Ramsgate Beach – and Dolls
Point, the perfect spot to mosey on down to and enjoy the seabreeze with a
coffee and delicious home baked cake or pastry from the market. While the beach was a tempting option –
I filled up my bike basket and rode home to make up some lovely impromptu
tartines – inspired by the market produce to have in the garden, with a chilled
glass of wine.
