Picnics and petanque

Despite the changeable weather in Sydney, we decided to brave the great outdoors for a (hopefully sunny) picnic and a game of Pétanque.  In the picnic basket we had some beautiful freshly baked baguettes, some free-range smoked ham, a delicious French camembert and the star of the show – a feisty anchoiade, with a bunch of lovely crudités and cornichons.

The salty, garlicky anchoiade bought all of the beautiful colour and warmth of Collioure into a chilly and slightly cloudy Sydney spring day.  Following the sage advice of Ms Waters, we had our lunch on real dishes – with plates, bowls and small glass tumblers for the wine. True to her advice, our picnicking equipment really transformed the whole experience and the game of Petanque was the icing on the (French inspired) cake!
